"Artists can color the sky red because they know it's blue. Those of us who aren't artists must color things the way they really are or people might think we're stupid."

Jules Feiffer (born January 26, 1929)

Colourizing freshens with vibrant new life....

Although the dated look of "hand tinted" still has limited applications, it has generally been replaced with rich, realistic colour. Gone are the odd looking skintones and bland tints.

The method? Your archival photo is scanned. The scan is then placed into a digital canvas and the magic begins.

Several layers of complimentary hues are hand painted. The layers are adjusted and balanced until the colours are perfect... achieving a beautifully natural final image. It is not a simple matter of splashing on solid colour in a "paint by numbers" fashion.

Colour match from memory...

The art of colourizing black and white photographs employs a digital paintbrush on a digital canvas. Therefore, if you recall the original colours they can be precisely matched.

As with all other photographic services, it is virtually impossible to set a monetary value prior to examining the photo(s).

Young Starlet: Partially colourized this example shows, without a doubt, the dramatic difference colour makes.

Rich, vibrant hues and tones have given this young 1950's starlet a sultry glamour. Along with colourizing, retouching has also encouraged her natural beauty to shine once again.

Blushing Bride circa 1950: Black and white wedding photographs are particularly beautiful when professionally colourized.

The original photograph had darkened with age. After restoration and balancing, it was hand coloured to match the original hues. The final result... a young bride now blushes with colour.

Birthday Girl: A deteriorated yellow photo of this darling little lass has been taken the next step, travelling from restoration to colourizing.

While the restored black and white photograph served the archival purpose, the addition of colour has truly emphasized her sweet nature.

HighSchool Memory: This black and white photo of a young man was colourized to exactly match the owner's memory of his shirt, tie and jacket.

After adjusting and balancing, artifacts were smoothed from the photograph... giving it a lovely silky finish.
